Blooming in Foster Parents Love

Due to neglect, one-month-old Bao Bao (a pseudonym) was placed in an emergency foster family. He was thin and weak at the time, with eczema covering his body. Fate brought Bao Bao a guardian angel – emergency foster parent* Mrs. Au, who provided him with exceptional care.

Bao Bao continued to face many challenges. At four years old, he was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, and at six years old, he was diagnosed with moderate mental retardation.  He couldn't even manage simple expressions. Mrs. Au carefully observed Bao Bao's interests, took him to supermarkets daily and attended school training programs to broaden his life experiences and learning opportunities. Facing Bao Bao's tendency to repeat, such as asking over ten times about a TV program’s name, Mrs. Au always responded with infinite patience. Patience, persistence, and love became Mrs. Au's motto in caring for Bao Bao.

With Bao Bao's special learning needs and inability to return to his original family for holidays, caring for Bao Bao is more challenging compared to normal children. However, Mrs. Au's love remained constant. Even during difficult times, she always ensured proper care arrangements for Bao Bao first. Mrs. Au was an emergency foster parent, but considering Bao Bao's special needs, she chose to become a long-term foster family to continue protecting him!

Now, Bao Bao has transformed into a child who can communicate using picture cards under Mrs. Au's care!

*Emergency Foster Parent:  take care children who require immediate or short-term residential service due to emergency or crisis situations in their families. Children are placed under the care of foster families and continue to enjoy family life and happiness until they can return home or secure a long-term residential placement.
